Overview

The midface loses volume with age through fat pad atrophy, bone remodeling, and descent of the soft tissue. Because the cheek is the structural keystone of the face, that loss shows up in several places at once: flatter cheekbones, deeper nasolabial folds, hollowing under the eyes, and a heavier look along the jaw. Replacing volume at the source addresses all of them together.

Dr. Zaks treats the cheeks with hyaluronic acid fillers — typically a structural Restylane® formulation or Evolysse™ — placed on the deep tissue planes and over bone where support is actually needed. His approach is deliberately conservative: rebuild the underlying scaffold, keep the result proportionate to your face, and reassess before adding more product. He performs every injection himself.

What Cheek Filler Addresses

Flat or Deflated Cheekbones

Restores projection over the zygomatic arch for a defined, lifted midface contour.

Midface Hollowing

Rebuilds volume lost from the deep medial and lateral cheek fat pads, which creates a gaunt or tired appearance.

Deep Nasolabial Folds

Supporting the cheek from above often softens the folds more naturally than injecting the fold alone.

Under-Eye Shadowing

Lateral cheek support can reduce the shadow at the upper cheek and improve the transition into the tear trough.

Facial Asymmetry

Differing volume between sides can be balanced with asymmetric placement — a common and often overlooked correction.

The Treatment Experience

  1. Assessment

Dr. Zaks analyzes your midface volume, proportion, and skin quality, and discusses realistic goals and how much product is appropriate.

  2. Structural placement

Filler is placed in small increments in the deep planes with a fine needle, with mirror checks throughout to keep the result balanced and natural.

  3. Recovery

Mild swelling and possible bruising for a few days. The contour settles by about two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much filler will I need?

It varies with the degree of volume loss — commonly one to two syringes per session, sometimes staged across visits. Dr. Zaks prefers to build gradually rather than overfill in one appointment.

Will I look overdone?

Not with structural, conservative placement. The 'overfilled' look usually comes from too much product placed too superficially. The goal is restored support, not a wider or rounder face.

How long do cheek filler results last?

Cheek filler is generally among the longest-lasting placements — often roughly a year or more — because the area moves less than the lips or perioral region.

Is there downtime?

Most patients return to work immediately. Expect mild swelling for a few days, and bruising is possible. Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

Which filler is used?

Typically a structural Restylane® formulation or Evolysse™. Dr. Zaks chooses between them based on the area being treated and the tissue support needed.

Can cheek filler replace a facelift?

No. Filler restores volume; it does not remove excess skin. For significant skin laxity, Dr. Zaks will tell you honestly if filler is not the right answer and discuss other options, including skin-tightening treatments.
