IPL Photofacial ( Fotofacial )

Using light to rejuvenate the look of your skin

Light from the sun is the cause of much of our skin's aging. By using a specialized medically-selected light in specific wavelengths, you can actually repair a great deal of the damage the sun caused. IPL, also referred to Photofacial, Fotofacial or Photo laser, is a common acronym for Intense Pulsed Light.

  • Pigmentation on the   face, arms, chest, hands
  • Lentigos (Sun-induced
      "freckles" or brownspots)
  • Liver or age spots
  • Facial flushing
  • Telangecstasia
  • Enlarged pores

" For a treatment that has been so simple, I'm very impressed with how it makes my skin look and feel." Jeannie Q.

How does IPL work?

IPL Photofacial reduces many forms of pigmentation and removes tiny red veins by the use of computer-controlled flashes of high intensity light. This light is absorbed by brown pigment (melanin) and red pigment (hemoglobin) instantly creating heat in those selected cells within your skin.

Heat destroys the melanin-making cells and breaks up the accumulated pigment. The small red vessels coagulate and are absorbed by the body's cleansing mechanism.

Solutions to Brownspots and Hyper-pigmentation

Dr. Zaks will apply a thick clear gel to your skin. This gel protects the top layer of your skin. With each pulse, a very bright flash of light is generated. Although you will be wearing protective goggles, you will be aware of the light flash. Treatments are quick and are generally completed in about 15 to 20 minutes.

The gel is removed from your skin and you can return
to your regular activity right away. There is usually a
darkening of the brownspots within a few days as the
pigment rises to the skin surface and sloughs off. Small
vessels fade over a period of 10 to 14 days. Treatments
are spaced three to four weeks apart.

IPL does not hurt, but you will feel the light burst. For patients who have never had IPL before, the first pulse of light is sometimes a bit startling.

How many treatments will I need?

Brown spots, pigmentation and solar "freckles" - 2 to 5 treatments

Spider veins and vascular lesions - 3 to 6 treatments

More pronounced spider veins will sometimes respond faster to Vbeam laser treatments. Dr. Zaks will advise you which procedure will work best for you.

At Superior Beverly Hills Dermatology Clinic, Inc., Dr. Zaks performs all skin light and laser treatments to ensure you are not subjected to the risk of post-treatment hyper-pigmentation. This is especially important if you are of Latin, Asian, Middle Eastern or a mixed origin as your skin can more easily become hyper-pigmented by incorrect settings or technique

IPL Fotofacial to:

  • Remove surface pigmented and vascular lesions.
  • Smooth out the skin.
  • Improve skin texture.
  • Stimulate additional collagen formation.
  • Reduce pore size.
  • Decrease the depth of mild facial wrinkles.
